Executive Officers

Timothy Vail - President, CEO, Founder and Director

T_Vail Timothy Vail’s entrepreneurial career, spanning nearly two decades, has focused on alternative energy, from fuel cells to clean coal, and has included key roles in many successful alternative energy ventures. Before joining G2X Energy, Mr. Vail was the President and CEO of Accelergy Corporation, an energy technology company focused on the commercialization of Exxon technology to cleanly convert coal into synthetic fuels. Prior to Accelergy, Mr. Vail served as President and CEO of Synthesis Energy Systems (SES), a global developer of coal gasification facilities that cleanly produce high-quality transportation fuels from low-rank coal resources. He was instrumental in raising more than $200 million for SES, building their first commercial facility and successfully listing the company on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Prior to joining SES in 2005, Mr. Vail served as the Director of Commercialization for Fuel Cell Development at General Motors where his responsibilities included developing GM’s Shanghai fuel cell office and coordinating engineering facilities in the United States, Germany, Japan and China. While at GM, he completed the world’s largest fuel cell commercialization deal with Dow Chemical and developed a fleet of fuel cell vehicles for the U.S. Postal Service. Prior to joining GM, Mr. Vail was the Vice President of Product Development for The New Power Company, a start-up subsidiary of Enron Corporation, where he was responsible for the development of new products and services. Previously he was Vice President at Enron Energy Services, focusing on alternative energy opportunities. Prior to Enron, Mr. Vail was a securities lawyer with Andrews & Kurth, LLP. He holds a JD degree from the University of Houston Law Center and a bachelor’s degree in economics from The University of Texas at Austin.

David Eichinger - Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President of Corporate Development and Founder

D_Eichinger David Eichinger’s career has ranged from developing innovative energy technologies to financing the activities of some of the world’s largest energy companies. Before joining G2X Energy, Mr. Eichinger was CFO of Accelergy Corporation, an energy technology company focused on the commercialization of Exxon technology to cleanly convert coal into synthetic fuels. Prior to Accelergy, Mr. Eichinger served as CFO of Synthesis Energy Systems (SES), a global developer of coal gasification facilities that cleanly produce high-quality transportation fuels from low-rank coal resources. He was instrumental in raising more than $200 million dollars for SES, building their first commercial facility and successfully listing the company on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Prior to his tenure at SES, Mr. Eichinger held various positions at General Motors, including his last position, commercializing fuel cells for stationary applications, where he engineered the largest stationary fuel cell deal with Dow Chemical. Previously, Mr. Eichinger led the spinoff of The New Power Company from Enron. Following three successful equity offerings that raised more than $750 million, Mr. Eichinger was responsible for all Corporate Development activities at New Power. At Enron, Mr. Eichinger led diverse Corporate Development activities across retail and wholesale businesses, including the acquisition of Portland General. Prior to Enron, Mr. Eichinger spent five years with Exxon and Exxon Chemicals focused on corporate finance and capital markets. Mr. Eichinger holds a master’s degree in business administration from Carnegie Mellon as well as graduate and undergraduate degrees in chemistry from The College of William and Mary.

Brent Gwaltney - Chief Operating Officer

Prior to joining G2X Energy, Mr. Gwaltney was Senior Vice President-International Investments of Koch Fertilizer (a division of Koch Industries), responsible for managing and developing the company’s foreign investments in nitrogen production facilities. Together with internal and external legal counsel, Mr. Gwaltney also drove the legal claim and negotiation process against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela related to an expropriation of the world’s second largest nitrogen manufacturing facility. Preceding the role at Koch’s headquarters, he was a member of the executive management team and Chief Financial Officer of FertiNitro in Jose, Venezuela where he focused on construction transition, debt renegotiation, lender and rating agency relationships, and a complex post-construction arbitration claim. Prior to his assignment in Venezuela, he held the roles of Chief Financial Officer and Director-Business Development at Koch Nitrogen Company (the predecessor to Koch Fertilizer). In addition to his experience at Koch companies, Mr. Gwaltney held various management, corporate development and treasury roles at CyberCrop in Fort Collins, Colorado; PepsiCo Foods International (Grupo Gamesa) in Monterrey, Mexico; and Eagle Industries and CBI Industries, both in the Chicago area. Brent holds a Master of International Management (MBA) from Thunderbird School of Global Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Accounting and Business Administration from Augustana College.

Danny Wilson - Executive Vice President of Upstream

Wilson_Danny_web Danny Wilson is a Petroleum Engineer with over 36 years of experience in operations, management, acquisitions and business development. He has experience in many petroleum provinces and reservoir types including unconventional shale reservoirs. Prior to joining G2X Energy, Mr. Wilson was Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Engineering at Maverick American Natural Gas and Executive Vice President of Saxet Petroleum. More »
He was responsible for business development activities, as well as evaluations of over $5 billion in oil and gas assets. Previously he was Manager of Acquisitions for EnerVest Ltd, responsible for all non-MLP acquisition evaluations and corporate reserves. In addition to his technical management role, he was responsible for business development, joint venture options and merger and acquisition activities. During this time, he coordinated acquisition studies of over $2 billion in assets. Mr. Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree, with honors, in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas at Austin where he is working towards a master’s degree in business administration. He is a registered professional engineer in Texas and a member of Houston Producers Forum, Independent Petroleum Association of America, Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers.

Steve Hirsh - Vice President, Head of Project Development

S_Hirsh Steve Hirsh has spent over fourteen years focused on the on the origination, development, and financing of energy infrastructure projects worldwide. Before joining G2X Energy, Mr. Hirsh held the position of Senior Director of Business Development for AEI, a leading developer, owner and operator of energy companies in emerging markets. More »
As a lead developer for AEI, he helped build, through greenfield development and acquisition, the company’s portfolio of energy investments in Asia and Latin America, including its gas distribution and power generation businesses in China and its wind power business in Chile. Mr. Hirsh’s project development experience spans several areas ranging from conventional and renewable power generation to natural gas transportation and coal gasification. Most recently, he successfully completed several first-of-its-kind projects such as China’s first wind farm funded by non-recourse project financing and Chile’s largest wind farm, which carried an innovative power off-take arrangement. He also held various positions in development and asset management at AEI Asia in Hong Kong, Prisma Energy International and Enron International. Mr. Hirsh holds a master’s degree in business administration from Duke, Fuqua School of Business in Durham, North Carolina, and a bachelor’s of commerce from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Matt Whitaker - Vice President of Project Management, Pampa

M_Whitaker Matt Whitaker has spent over twenty-five years formulating and executing business strategies throughout the full energy value chain for industrial, energy, petro-chemical and power sectors. Prior to joining G2X Energy, Mr. Whitaker led a consultancy practice providing comprehensive support in the assessment, development and implementation of energy projects. More »
Specific focus areas were: market assessments, merger and acquisition advisory services, constructability and capital market support. Earlier, Mr. Whitaker was the Senior Vice President of Synthesis Energy Systems (SES), a global developer of coal gasification facilities that cleanly produce high-quality transportation fuels from low-rank coal resources. Prior to SES, he engaged in principal investing with a privately held company based in Houston, Texas, that focused on micro-cap investments in North American distressed manufacturing assets. Mr. Whitaker also served for 13 years as President and Chief Operating Officer of Electrical Technologies Inc., an industrial engineering, procurement and construction firm that specialized in chemical and energy infrastructure projects in emerging markets. Prior to that, he spent almost a decade with his family business. Mr. Whitaker holds a master’s degree in environmental, health and safety management and a bachelor’s degree in applied arts and science, both from Rochester Institute of Technology.  

Clay Watson - Vice President of Corporate Finance and Administration

C_Watson Clay Watson’s career has focused on accounting and finance in the energy industry including companies in the refining, chemicals, commodities trading, pipelines and public utility industries. Before joining G2X Energy, Mr. Watson served as Controller of Accelergy Corporation, an energy technology company focused on the commercialization of Exxon technology to cleanly convert coal into synthetic fuels. Prior to joining Accelergy, he was a Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLC, where he gained public accounting experience in financial accounting and reporting and internal controls. Mr. Watson’s clients included multi-national refining, marketing and trading organizations. He assisted clients with capital market offerings, IFRS implementations, ongoing financial reporting and SEC registration requirements. Mr. Watson holds a master’s of accountancy and a bachelor’s of accountancy, both from the University of Mississippi. He is a CPA in the state of Texas.

David Cassidy - Board Member

David Cassidy is the Chief Executive of Proman, a diversified company operating in the petrochemical sector as an engineering contractor, operator and owner of world-scale facilities. He has a master’s degree from Cambridge University, England.

Ira Ehrenpreis - Board Member

Ira Ehrenpreis is a General Partner with Technology Partners. He has been with the firm since 1996. Ira leads Technology Partners’ Cleantech investment practice, investing in energy technology, water technology, and advanced materials opportunities. Mr. Ehrenpreis is a recognized leader in both the venture capital industry and the Cleantech sector, and in 2007, was named one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Men Under 45” by Details Magazine. In the venture community, Ira has served on the Board and Executive Committee of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) and on the Board of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists (WAVC). He served as Chairman of the 2010 NVCA Annual Meeting. He also serves as the Co-Chairman of the VCNetwork, the largest and most active Bay Area venture capital organization. In the Cleantech sector, Ira has served on several industry Boards, including the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Advisory Committee (ERAC), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Advisory Council, the Clean-Tech Investor Summit (Conference Chairman in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012), Cleantech Venture Network (Past Chairman of Advisory Board), ACORE (American Council on Renewable Energy), Energy Investors Forum (Past Conference Chairman), Energy Venture Fair, and California Climate Change Advisory Board. Mr. Ehrenpreis is also an active leader at Stanford University, where his contributions have included teaching the course on Venture Capital, serving on the Board of Visitors of Stanford Law School, and being an advisory board member of the Stanford Global Climate and Energy Project (GCEP). Mr. Ehrenpreis received his JD degree and master’s degree in business administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business and Stanford Law School, where he was an Associate Editor of Stanford Law Review. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude.

Erwin Keutner - Board Member

Erwin Keutner is the Chief Operating Officer of Proman, a diversified company operating in the petrochemical sector as an engineering contractor, operator and owner of world-scale facilities. He has a master’s degree from the University of Cologne, Germany.

Jan Spin - Board Member

Jan W. Spin is the President and CEO of Southern Chemical Corporation. He is attributed with growing the methanol and melamine company’s breadth of services and global reach, making SCC a market leader in the Western Hemisphere. More »
Mr. Spin served on the board of the Methanol Institute from 2001-2012, serving as both Chairman and Treasurer during his tenure. He also served as Treasurer on the board of the Formaldehyde Council in Arlington, VA.  He holds a degree in Finance from American University in Washington, D.C.

Bryant Tong - Board Member

Bryant Tong joined Nth Power in 2001 as a Managing Director. Previously he was founder, President and CEO of Pacific Venture Capital (PVC), the venture capital arm of PG&E, where he led investments in the energy and telecommunications sectors. More »
Prior to joining PVC, Mr. Tong co-founded ReSourcePhoenix, a public company that pioneered the use of the Internet to help businesses outsource IT and accounting operations. As President and COO, he planned business strategy, led sales and marketing, and was responsible for all day-to-day operations. Prior to ReSourcePhoenix, Mr. Tong was a member of the senior management group at Phoenix American where he worked with Phoenix Growth Capital (PGC), which provided venture lease financing to more than 200 venture capital-backed companies. Mr. Tong also served for four years as a senior member of the audit staff of Ernst and Young with responsibility for the preparation of interim and year-end audits, SEC reporting requirements and internal control reviews. His clients included venture capital firms and large financial institutions. Mr. Tong earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs as well as several industry advisory boards including: the Energy Venture Fair, the Chinese/U.S. Energy Efficiency Alliance and the Golden Capital Network.
